Refinished Table and Chairs.....
This was for one of my previous clients who
loved our work from what we did for them before.
She wanted her dining table and chairs set refinished, not painted.
So here is the before...the table has a slide in leaf.
It was darker and scratched.
The previous finish was a gel stain, so when
it was banged into which will happen over
time, it showed white wood and chipped.
With gel stain it lays over the wood, stain penetrates
into the wood which stains it. So we couldn't get it to the exact
dark color like this. The wood was very close together also much
harder to take stain.
I had to use 3 different colors of stain to get it even
somewhat close to the previous finish.
We stripped it all down.
Then I went to work to get it to look like this below....
Added a poly to the top. Multiple layer of it on top
for extra protection.
Added poly to all the chairs and base of table also.
She loved it! It actually matched exactly with her floor color.
That was awesome!
Dresser Set Painted with Farrow & Ball.......
A new client contacted us for a dresser set she wanted custom
painted in a special paint with a specific color.
This could not be matched 100% to any other paint.
Which is why she wanted this particular brand.
With this paint, it's very tricky. You can only use their
primer, so I couldn't use my usual primer with
this particular paint.
Here is the before, forgot to take the picture of
the mirror.
Had a lot of ridges.....very rough. We sanded it all down though.
This is the paint.
Primed it and then painted it all. She wanted the color
Mahogany, which is a brown color with a slight red tint.
Next, added a polycrylic finish to it.
She wanted the handles in a brushed nickel.
So we stripped the hardware and custom
painted them.
Here is the mirror we did also.
She loved it! Very satisfied client.
Beautiful!
Shabby Chic Pink Chest Of Drawers..
We found this antique chest of drawers awhile back in bad shape....
So we repaired it off and on while waiting on
pieces we were working on to dry...
Stripped it down...
.
primed it all...
This is the color I chose, a light soft pink,
called Powder Pink by Benjamin Moore.
A very subtle pink color.
Then painted it all in our professional flat finish.
I left all the cracks and dents on this one, I usually
seal that all up as shown in my
previous posts.
I couldn't take that away with this one as it's
old and wanted to stay with that look.
I distressed the edges...
smooth finish...
Added these beautiful ceramic teal flower knobs
with gold tips....
replaced all the inner bottom drawers...
we also replaced the back boards...
So beautiful!
French White Baby Blue Dresser..
One of our many wonderful repeat clients came to us
and picked another dresser we had
in our inventory. Then she wanted us to custom paint it.
Here is the french provincial dresser she picked
from our inventory. This is in it's factory finish pictured below.
We stripped it down to the bare wood, this was a
very hard finish to get off. Three thick layers, primer,
paint, glaze, and the sealer. We take everything off, even the inner parts along
where the drawers sit...I've heard of people
using only soap and water or tsp to
wipe off previous waxes. Then they paint over that with primer.
We don't do that, we strip it down completely for our latex finish,
no light sanding with a 220 sandpaper either.
It's hard work, but it's a durable finish. That's why my clients come
back to me. Plus, it's a awesome finish at that.
We do this with milk and sometimes chalk paint,
depending on the look we are asked to do.
Next, we primed it, then painted
it with our favorite latex paint.
Benjamin Moore.
She wanted it distressed lightly on the edges...
I painted the inner surface of the drawers baby blue and distressed that some.
Handles left original....
That paint isn't going no where. It was work just to distress
it, couldn't get to the wood the finish is so durable.
All my pieces I custom paint are like that though.
Just beautiful!
Buffet painted black then distressed...
One of my previous clients contacted us about
this buffet she had. She wanted us to paint
it black with some distress on the edges.
Then, wanted the inside painted the color of her walls
in her dining room/hallway.
here is the before, a thick heavy factory finish....
we stripped it all down to the bare wood...
then painted it all black....
distressed the edges...
sprayed with my hvlp gun a polycrylic
to seal it all....
painted the inside a soft gray/blue color
used the same color of her walls...
Looks really good, a lot better then the original finish!
Antique Chest Of Drawers Soft Coral
We have had this antique chest
of drawers for awhile now.
I pulled it off of my as is for sale list
and decided to custom paint
it my own way...
here is the before below...
We had repaired most of it before we
put it up for as is sale, so
we sanded all down and filled in
the carved design on the 4th drawer...
I primed it all and painted it a soft coral
by Ben Moore...
stained the middle drawers a mixture of stain colors...
sealed them with poly using my hvlp sprayer....
found some handles I had and sprayed them gold....
I also had these backplates and added them with some knobs
painted them gold....
stained the top with a mixture of stain colors
and then added poly with hvlp sprayer...
also added a wood applique I had and painted that gold....
just to bring out the chest as it was so plain...
Then added some wood wheels we had to give the old antique
look back...
solid wood old back.....very nice and sturdy...
I think it looks way better now. With all I added, plus the colors, much better!
Mid Century Modern Gray Dresser
We got this mcm dresser in, it was way to damaged
to put up as is. So, we tackled it on right away.
Here is the before....
we stripped it down, repaired all the missing veneer
added legs, then I primed it, and
custom painted it gray.....
polished the brass knobs...
and handles...
and the brass tips of the legs....
our smooth flat finish....
this is why I love latex paint, as long as
you know how to prep it and lay it down,
then add a good protective sealer,
it comes out awesome!
Plus latex has such a variety of colors.....
and durable....
Beautiful and sleek!
Our finish is very durable with normal everyday use.
I've had repeat clients from 3 years ago
say the furniture we custom painted for them looks
as if we just finished it.
Benjamin Moore latex paint is our #1 paint we use.
Mediterranean Dresser Painted in Metallic Champagne & Gold....
This was a referral custom order. One of our previous clients
loved my work on a dresser they purchased from us
and had us custom paint for them. So, they referred me to their friend!
She showed me this picture and wanted me to match
the finish to the dresser she picked out from our inventory.
These are her nightstands, I went over and looked at them
in person at her house.
I just couldn't perfect that finish. The colors and glaze/wax where
everywhere on the color grid, along with a certain gold color I couldn't
pinpoint.
This is the dresser she picked out.....
so she asked what else I could do and
I suggested a few combo ideas and
she agreed on this one below!
we sanded it all down and added 4 feet that would
be similar to the nightstands....
Primed it all and painted it a mix of metallic colors
from Ralph Lauren and Modern Masters
for the body....
The mixture of the colors I did came
out a champagne color....
Then I mixed some modern masters metallic golds to
come up with a perfect color
of gold to detail it....
Stripped some of the hardware then added some gold
in areas.....
Then, I aged it......
It came out perfect! Matches well with her nightstands!
Headboard Set Painted Black.......
One of my past clients that purchased a custom painted
french chest I did back in 2013, contacted
me. She wanted
us to paint her king size headboard set black.
Plus some distress on edges.
She has started to paint it gray, but then didn't have time
to finish......
when we went to pick it up she changed her mind and
wanted it all black with distressed edges.....
So we stripped it down, by sanded it to the
bare wood....
then I painted it all black....
distressed edges....
Came out really nice!
Custom Painted White Nightstands Set Made Higher.....
We had this nightstands set up for sale as is
for awhile. I had a idea in my head for these.
I pulled off the knobs as it was
missing one, John sealed up the holes.
Added puddy to the damaged areas....
glued loose veneer...
Replaced damaged slides....
Primed and painted it all white.....
Color is Ben Moore Out of Can White......
I have lots of different legs, I picked these though
I think they go better with the style...
Added thick wood planks to the back of the
nightstands....
Found the perfect knobs to bring out the beauty
in these nightstands....
They look so much better now!
Elegant Clean Look for Soft Gray Dresser.......
I had this triple drawer dresser in my
inventory for some time about a year.
Pulled it out and went to work on it.
Here is the before...I removed the big handles
and the backplate/knob on the middle cabinet door
Stripped it down to bare wood, nice smooth sanding job
sealed in all the holes from the handles and nail holes
primed it and painted it a soft gray by Ben Moore
called nightingale
went on a search for the perfect knobs....
antiqued the backplates decor on the top drawers
and cabinet drawer hinges
Looks way better then the before.
An elegant clean look.
French Chest Converted to Dress Up Armoire........
One of our awesome repeat clients, texted me
a picture of a chest converted into a dress up armoire.
I told her I've done one like that before like
3 years ago and showed it to her. (You can view it in
one of my previous post from the year 2013.)
She said we where awesome and asked if we had
any chests in our inventory.
So I showed her 3 I had and she picked this one.
She wanted it Simply White by Ben Moore with
silver handles. Then a wood closet rod to match it.
This is it in one whole picture....
Here is the before...
the feet where chipped off and missing...
John got to work on the building process...
added a wood back since the other was
that thick cardboard...
stripped it all down....
added wood sides and bottom....
repaired the feet and reshaped them...
John does such an awesome job....
can't even tell it was chipped off....
stone hard structure now will not chip off like the wood did....
I primed it then painted it all white....
primed and painted the wood rod and wood holders....
John installed it with the right measurements
so the hangers can be removed without
a problem...
stripped, primed, painted, and sealed the hardware....
our smooth flat thin finish....
It is so super cute! Her little girl is going to love it!
Thank you Brooke for thinking of us!
Chateau Chic Finish Italian Provincial Dresser
This beautiful curved in Italian provincial dresser
was picked form my inventory by a
client. She wanted a 80"wide dresser and loved this one!
She also wanted it in a chateau finish.
Here is the before picture.
Gorgeous right?
We sanded down the top to get rid of major
dents and scratches..
then I went to work on the painting process...
I used a brush for this technique...no hvlp sprayer
on this one....
I hand painted everything......
aged it in certain areas.....
I just aged where I thought
would look best and more original....
took all hardware off and kept it original....
I not only do smooth flat latex finishes,
I also do chalk paint finishes!
All self taught, too!
My client LOVED it! So do I!
Broyhill Dresser Custom Painted White....
This Broyhill triple dresser was picked from
our inventory by a client.
She wanted it painted all white with polished hardware.
She also wanted it a clean look with no distress.
This was the before.....
after we stripped it down....
we take off all hardware and
cabinet doors for a better finish....
I primed it and then painted it
the color she chose.....
it was a Sherwin Williams color
that I matched to Benjamin Moore paint....
very clean look....
smooth finish....no brush strokes....
like I said we take EVERY piece
of hardware off.....
smooth top....
I paint everywhere you can see....
I tried to take a picture of the sun shining
on the dresser so you can
see the smooth flat finish we always do...
the only time we don't do a flat smooth finish
is when the client wants a shabby aged look
with layered colors.....
Fully completed.
She was very impressed as all my clients are.
The before, during, and after process.
Black Nightstand, Teal Chest, French Provincial Headboard Set....
We love to custom paint furniture, we love
it so much, that we take pride in our work.
We pay attention to detail and put our best effort into
each piece. It's a lot of work, but we enjoy the finished part.
We really enjoy it when our clients refer us! That they trust
and love our work so much that
they are willing to share our work!
We had a client last year that came to us to paint
them a french provincial dresser. Then a year later,
we got a call from a friend of theirs that wanted
us to do some of their furniture also!
So we did a french provincial bedroom set you can see in
a previous post. Then they asked us to do more furniture...
which you will see below.
This nightstand was all black, but he wanted it
updated to a new black and distressed with
polished handles.
So we stripped it all down...
.
painted it all black....
polished up the handles....
then distressed it in some areas....
just a touch of distress not too much...
our smooth finish....
All done, more clean and updated!
Next, they wanted us to custom paint
this chest in a soft teal with silver handles...
so we sanded the chest down and primed it....
painted it soft teal...
stripped, primed, and painted the handles silver....
our smooth flat finish....
Super Cute!!!
Last, was the french provincial headboard set.
This was actually supposed to go with
the french provincial bedroom
set we had did for them a few months ago.
They forgot to give it to us, so we stripped it down...
primed it and painted it a creamy white...
distressed it slightly....
All done and looking adorable!
Custom Painted Dresser & Cabinet For Interior Designer.......
So we are finally completed with Stephanie's
order on the pieces she had us custom paint for her.
If you read my other post last month,
on the interior designer "Stephanie Ruckert" you can
view the other pieces we did for her..
She is remodeling her whole house in The Woodlands, Tx,
to show her different styles in designing homes.
This picture below was a french dresser with peeling
veneer. This took almost a month to repair.
We had to glue each layer of veneer back on, smooth
it out, then repaired the rest that was missing.
Stripped it all down.....primed it....
She wanted it out of the can white,
with gray detail and hardware,...
Fully completed, a whole lotta work, but it came out fantastic!
Next, was a cabinet she had wanted it painted a
certain color of blue, with gold detail rubbed
over the popped out parts on the sides
and the drawers.....
So we sanded it down and primed it....
Painted it her blue she picked out,,,
she also picked out these handles....
did the gold detail.....
Here it is all done! Super Gorgeous!

One of my repeat clients contacted me on some
french provincial furniture she wanted for her daughter.

She wanted the nightstand and headboard painted a soft white.
so here is the before of the nightstand....
we stripped it all down....
then primed and painted it the soft white she picked out.....
she wanted the hardware silver, so we stripped the hardware also
and painted it silver...
smooth flat finish....
Beautiful right?
Next , she wanted us to repaint her french chest,
she had painted it a oil base white....
stripped it down...handles also...
then primed and painted it a soft teal...

smooth flat finish...

went out and found this for her....
stripped it down what we could and sanded down the rest...

smooth flat finish....
Here is the whole set completely finsihed
and custom painted by "Piece Of Candy Furniture"!
Love! So did she and her daughter!
Antique Claw Foot Desk Painted Coral.......
One of my repeat clients asked me for a desk.
She needed one to use for a changing table in
her downstairs living room.
I didn't have this beautiful antique claw foot listed, because it
needed repair. It didn't have a top, was loose, and peeling veneer.
I showed it to her and she
loved it. It was the perfect size and look she wanted.
she wanted it stained with a mixture of wood color....
so after repairing we sanded it all down....
did our technique of the mixed stained wood...
she wanted a coral color and some knobs, so we decided
on these knobs which are so beautiful...
repaired all the peeling veneer....
love those knobs....
put a top on it and painted it coral...
she wanted a mixture of different wood colors
and
a coral threw out the desk...
She loved it! I think it came out really beautiful!
Custom Painted Pieces for Interior Designer..........
As most of you know, I sell my furniture pieces
unfinished or we can custom paint them for you.
Our unfinished pieces are most of the time a blank
canvas. Which means you can paint them however you
want if you buy unfinished.
So, an interior designer named Stephanie Ruckert
contacted me for one of my unfinished pieces.
She wanted us to deliver it unfinished.
Then, she viewed my blog and called back
for us to custom paint 6 of her pieces.
She told us she had just purchased a house in The Woodlands, TX.
What she is doing is remodeling the whole house
to show different styles of decorating houses.
Basically, her home will be a display of her interior designs.
She mixes industrial and vintage together.
It is so awesome looking!
She calls herself "Free Spirit Finds"
Here is the antique buffet she wanted it repaired as shown
we are doing.....
then she picked out a teal color...
wanted us to age it where it
would naturally age,,,,
we sanded it completely down after repairing it...
sealed the wood and painted it all teal except the hardware....
then added a satin finish.....
Wow! Looks beautiful!
Next, was a dresser that had a thick yellow finish on it...
this was the only before picture I could get as
John started on it before I
could get a picture...
The hardware was a heavy black....
we stripped the whole thing even the hardware....
primed it all....
then painted it gray...
added the high gloss...
also primed the hardware....
painted the hardware gold with a high gloss...
Love this lock!
This one came out fantastic!!!
Then, she had this old radio/record player
from when she was small...
wanted us to paint it yellow with a high gloss....
we sanded it all down, primed it....
then painted it yellow...
then added the high gloss which you really
can't tell as the sun wasn't out...
Done and awesome!!!
I still have 3 other pieces I'm working on,
once completed I will post them.
Info on our painting process, just so you know what you are getting with us.......
For all the furniture we custom paint, we do numerous steps to get our furniture to look like it does. A flat smooth finish, meaning no sanding swirls marks, no drips, even coverage, and no thick layers of paint. We do not use shortcuts or try to do it the easy way. Doing it right is always a lot of work but, we do it anyway.
Our custom painted furniture takes 1-2 weeks to complete and cannot be done within a few days. During this process is a lot of dry time with glue, putty, and paint. Then more time is sanding the old finish off this is a very time consuming and messy process.
On all our pieces we use a hvlp spray gun with primers and paints. If the client asked for a polycrylic finish we spray that with the hvlp gun also. No hand painting. First, we repair any piece that needs it, so it can be sturdy and last a long time. Second, we strip them down, meaning taking mostly if not all the current finish off. This makes it more durable and long lasting. Third, we prime the piece and sand it again to smooth it out. Sometimes, the piece isn't primed if the client wants to show the wood and not the primer, so we seal the wood. Fourth, we paint it with Benjamin Moore latex paint and sand it to smooth it out again. Last, it doesn't really need it but for added protection we add the wax or polycrylic. We've been doing this for almost 6 years and we love when our clients give us referrals. This is how we know our process works.
View my posts and you can see the steps we take. From the before to the after pictures. We may do a lot of work, but it gets the job done for a lasting piece. No matter what paint we use, latex, milk paint, or chalk paint we still do the above steps. I figure most everyone that is paying for a custom painted piece wants it to look professionally custom painted and last.
