Lane Mid Century Modern Tuxedo Bedroom Set

We found this back in 2022. Stored it in our inventory for a while. John and I knew it was going to take some time to restore. I definitely wasn’t going to paint it. I did have it up in my custom collection for some time. But decided to pull it, I didn’t know how it was going to look once stained. So, didn’t want to make any promises to a client that I wasn’t sure about on finish. It had worn finish wear. The dresser and master dresser had glass tops with no protection so it worn down the finish bad.

Original bow tie hardware. That was very worn and tons of oxidation on all handles. We had to remove all that and wash them. After that I primed, painted, and sealed them.

The original stain was gunstock. Walnut veneer with rosewood bow tie and ebony overlay.

The sides of the drawers, grooves on drawers, tops of drawers, and inner bottom cabinet area are painted in a brown color.

Here is the dresser and nightstands stripped. I forgot to get one of the large master chest.

Whole set fully restored. I had to use different stain colors and bases to get the color I wanted. I didn’t like the gunstock color it previously had. The wood was lighter in certain areas. That was tricky to do. I don’t use toner, because I don’t like the way it looks. That’s just my preference though.

My finishes are sanded down for a smooth finish. It took about two to three weeks to get this set fully completed.

Painted the handles in a dark brown paint. I didn’t like the original finish. It has silver fronts. It just threw everything off for me.

The cabinet doors were tricky. That is where some of the wood was different from the veneer.

Top coated everything in multiple layers of semi gloss sealer.

Painted the grooves on the drawers, sides of drawers, and inner bottom cabinet areas in a dark brown paint.

Cleaned and oiled the inner cabinet shelf areas.

Dovetailed drawers.

It even has the original Lane tag with all the details of the Tuxedo line in it. They made buffets, chairs, mirrors, table sets, in this line. The quality we use to have in furniture making was amazing. All USA produced. Manufacturers in the USA poured so much in these pieces. Hopefully, one day we get all that back. Manufacturing in the USA.

Finishing off with a before and after.

Looks much better. It feels so good to finally get this completed. Thanks for looking!
